The
Environmental Council meets on an as-needed basis in Second Life. The group is open to environmental leaders, activists, decision makers, and scientists, as well as media members who are actively engaged in environmental issues. Our members form numerous spontaneous alliances to accomplish short- and long-term goals.
For Earth Day 2007, we attracted well over 1,000 attendees, of whom over 700 took virtual wristbands that also functioned as an alert source, announcing upcoming events to those wearing the wristbands, 10 minutes before the event started. A database of events was connected to wristband-vending signs, and the whole infrastructure allowed management and promotion of this event with minimal volunteer count and with less than two months from the very start of the effort through Earth Day itself (April 22nd).
All members can post notices and IM to each other, and there is frequent collaboration among members for various projects.
