Many polar scientists believe there is a greater than 50:50 chance the Arctic will be ice-free this summer, decades ahead of predictions of only a short while ago.

I draw two conclusions from this:

1) if anything, scientists have underestimated the speed with which climate changes and ice melting (including Greenland and the Antarctic) will arrive, and

2) contrary to exaggerating the problem for self-profit as some disingenuous climate change deniers and their misled followers have claimed, the scientists have been conservative in their predictions; this implies that they are being extra careful before alarming other people, and to avoid claims that scientists are money-motivated opportunists.

Those who have followed the exchanges of the past five to ten years will understand both these points very well.
