There is a major committee chairmanship that will be chosen next week, concerning energy and the environment from the business and commercial direction. It is an important committee. Let me quote from the Oil Change International Web site:
Next week Democrats in Congress will make decisions on committee leadership. No committee is more important for potential action on energy and climate than the House Energy and Commerce Committee. For years, the committee has been controlled by 82 year old Rep. John Dingell, of Michigan, the biggest Democratic friend of the oil, auto and coal industries.
Rep. Henry Waxman (CA) has announced his intention to challenge Dingell for the Chairmanship of this committee. Waxman, who is one of the most progressive members of Congress, would indeed represent real change. [make your response]
Below is the way that I responded on that page. I included their standard paragraph, but added a second paragraph with my specific thoughts:
I'm writing to ask you to vote for Henry Waxman as the new Chair of the Energy and Commerce Committee. We need new leadership for real change on that committee, to solve global warming and other crucial problems America faces. Thank you!
I am deeply aware of the energy AND climate issues faced by the United States and the world. You can read more at my Web site http://www.PlanetThoughts.org, which is a volunteer work programmed completely by myself and earning no income - because I am so concerned by environment issues. Please choose a chairperson who is seriously aware of the urgent needs for a change in direction from both the energy viewpoint and the environmental viewpoint, so that the efforts of so many scientists, policy professionals, and concerned citizens are not wasted.

I hope you can contribute your thoughts toward this important government position that may be a major implementation force for the next four to eight years. Thank you.
