Vestas build offshore Eolic 'Nnorth Hoyle'
|
|
Off-shore wind has not yet been deployed, but the race is on to get started with wind on the outer continental shelf.
Advantages:
- far from people's back yards with visual and noise worries (realistic or not)
- subject to very strong winds
- closer to the coastal high-energy-demand regions than the onshore high-wind areas
Disadvantages:
- higher cost of drilling into ocean bed and building and anchoring wind turbines in the ocean
