I was looking through Web sites on environment and science, as usual, and saw this headline:
What Causes Cell Defences To Crumble? Proteins In Mussels Act As Barrier To Toxic Environmental Chemicals
Now, as a former (current?) science guy, my first reaction was, "Oh, wow, how cool... maybe mussels have a secret that will benefit human life".
But then the more holistic aspect of my brain kicked in, the one that has grown and improved gradually with over 50 years of carefully marshalled life experience.
That part of my brain said, "Have we screwed up SO badly that we are now depending on some lowly creature (no offense to mussels) to rescue us through some weird extract of its essence? Is our goal now to live in a sea of toxins but shake it off due to mussel extract?
Stating the obvious, what about a change in how we live, a clean friendly planet, blue skies, fresh air and water.
You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one....
Excuse me while I daydream and recall the music of my younger years, and the idealism that was in the air forty years ago.
